Bushel Baskets Wholesale

Question for people who sell at Farmers Markets?

I signed up to do my local farmers market this year. Ive never done this before. I will be selling alot of various veggies. My question is. Where can I find containers at a cheap price? I have a tax id, so I can buy wholesale if needed. Also I cant find any reasonably priced bushel baskets for display. Any help or ideas would be great! Thanks :0)

I would not buy bushel baskets go with plastic lugs. perhaps not as pretty (at first) but will last 15+ years, are easy to clean/sterilize (you cannot clean out bushel baskets after a certain point and I have not had them last more than 2 season with fairly heavy use). the cheapest place to get them is direct from the manufacturer BuckHorn plastics. You want the nesting stacking lugs http://www.buckhorninc.com. I use these for harvest, storage (and you can get a lot more of these in a fridge or on a truck than bushel baskets which cannot be stacked without damaging the contents) and they cost about twice as much as a basket (but far less when you extrapolate out 15+ years for plastic lugs vs 2 years of use for a Bushel basket).

For display I generally use small baskets like what restaurants use for bread. unless you are harvesting about 2 tons of food for each market you will soon run out of enough product to keep your displays looking really full and if the display is not really full looking the customer assumes all the “good” stuff has been sold. So I go with putting out small amounts of produce and keep the rest in coolers and replenish my display as needed so it looks full up to the end of market
