Christmas Gift Basket Poems
Gift ideas for terminal cancer patients?
I have a family member who was recently diagnosed with cancer and given 3-5 months to live. He is living (as comfortably as can be expected) at his house, and I’m going to be visiting him and his wife around Christmas. I want to get him some sort of Christmas gift, but he has said that he doesn’t want “stuff that is going to be around longer” than he is. So, I’m trying to think of some sort of consumable, or immediately useful gifts. The idea of a fruit basket/chocolates/etc just seems too impersonal, but at the same time, he’s not one for “sentimental” gifts (poems, songs, and so forth).
If anyone has any ideas, I’d love to hear them. Thank you so much!
NO BOOKS. People can’t concentrate enough to read when they are on the strong pain meds.
* I would suggest an audio book and an mp3 player to go with it.
* You could also get him a nice blanket to put on his bed.
* How about fresh flowers delivered once a week until he’s gone.
* Sponsor an hour of one of his favorite radio talk shows
* Hire a small music group or musician to come play for him in his room
* Take him out to an expensive steak house for a great meal
* Take him on a short train trip or a cruise
