The holiday season should be a time of cheer, but shopping for gifts can cause unnecessary stress especially if you are on a tight budget like millions of Americans. This year, being creative on how to spend your money will take your budget a long way because you really don’t have to spend a lot to design holiday gifts. Making unique and personalized holiday gifts baskets can be affordable, at the same time very elegant if you include the right items.
The initial items you will need of course is a basket, clear wrapping film or paper, and various colors and textures of ribbons. Try to find different sizes and styles, and materials, such as canvas, which can be reused as a magazine basket or storage basket. You can find a very nice array of baskets at any thrift, dollar, craft store, or discount department store.
You can buy most of your gift basket products from a discount department store for much less. For a spa gift basket, include one bubble bath or shower gel, a loofah, a pair of white slippers, a scented candle, a face towel (maybe even with a letter monogram), and a body lotion. All these wonderful bath products can be purchased for about $50, if you want to spend less than that, skip the face towel or slippers.
Another basket idea, which is more unique is a dental care gift set. You can order a professional strength at home teeth whitening or night guard kit for about $80 online. If you wrap either product in a basket with a few other dental products, you can transform it into a luxury gift basket. Include a toothbrush case, an elegant case for the whitening or night guard tray, a small mirror adorned with a few rhinestones and a small picture frame. Include a note in the frame that says, “Smile Big, Smile Bright”. This gift will cost up to $100, but will be appreciated for both its uniqueness and usefulness.
Another popular type of gift basket is for tea lovers. If you know someone who loves tea, fill the basket with various types of flavored teas, a teacup set a small teapot and English tea biscuits. You can also find flowering teas and a clear glass teapot, which anyone would love. This basket will cost around $40.
When you’ve completed filling up the baskets, wrap each basket with the clear wrapping paper and grab it at the top and tie the ribbon with one knot. From there, you can build on decorating the basket with the ribbons. Tie a big bow, and then use small ribbon sizes to build around the bow, twirl the ribbons on each side of the basket. Make sure the ribbon is color coordinated with the items in the basket so that they don’t clash. For the holiday, if you are going to use red or green colors, consider using dark berry, ruby or emerald tones, rather than the traditional bright reds and greens. Rich berry, ruby red and emerald colored ribbons are perfect for the season and will make your gift baskets look more elegant and sophisticated.
