Gourmet Snack Gift Basket
What to get my elderly aunt and her husband for x-mas?
My Aunt is in her mid 60’s and her new husband in his 80’s, I really love her and always try to get her something good for x-mas. I’m totally out of ideas this x-mas though. I mean, she has plenty of nice things, a nice home, and well everything you acquire in life. I felt so bad because last year I just sent her a gift basket of gourmet snacks. It was so impersonal. I don’t want to do that again this year.

And nothing that screams “you are old” like magnifying glasses and remotes with large buttons. There people are healthier than I, and I’m 27. They get around just fine, and do just fine.
They live on the other side of the country. We had a great visit this summer, but we can only get out to see them once a year.
No matter how healthy you are at 60 and 80, there are always thoughtful gifts that are clever and useful. I bought myself a little cheapo thing to open jars because my hands aren’t as good as they once were. And yes, time is a good gift. A promise to do something for them. I didn’t see if you were F or M but offer to clean the leaves out of the gutters, turn over a garden, clean out the garage where they point and you do. Oops just saw the live on the other side of the country thing. I see you don’t like impersonal but I give gift cards so that the person can choose something they want. I don’t need anything else to put in my house or on my walls so a dinner to a great restaurant or for a massage or spa, a subscription to a magazine. My sister so loves different coffees and they gave her a gift where a different really excellent coffee arrives each month. It’s hard to come up with those gifts for people that have everything so if age isn’t a factor, then don’t go at it from that point of view. I used to bake my mother’s Christmas cookies and send them with the recipes so they wouldn’t be lost and they were just excellent. How about a Christmas ornament with a picture of you on it. . .the missing you angle? That way every Christmas you’ll be there.
