What are some cute and easy homemade gifts for the elderly?
So every year, I like to make little things for the elderly for the holidays. Some of them have nobody, and I feel so bad. I like to see them happy. Last year, I just made them some cards, but this year I want to make them something thoughtful. I was thinking of making them a little gift basket with some homemade items in it. The thing is, I don’t know what to put for homemade items in it! Any ideas? I just need some easy crafts, but I don’t want them to be cheesy or anything. Just enough for the old people to love it. What can I buy for cheap materials, and what are some recipes I can use to make them a little treat? Thank you sooo much. Any help is greatly appreciated! (:
Awesome! Okay, here’s a list of items I have made for elderly members of the family and neighbors from my old neighborhood too.
Little sachets for their drawers. You can buy little see through drawstring pouches for very little. I dolled them up with satin roses and such. I then filled them with different scents, lavender and such. They loved them! They are practical and pretty!
I have bought little baskets which looked like bushel baskets. I decorated them with all manner of Christmas trims and filled them with fruit, nuts, candy (ribbon) and a few baked goods too. They loved these and kept the baskets for serving items at their Christmas meal.
You can buy plain simple balsa wooden boxes. I took these in several shapes, bought some crocheted pieces at the dollar store and glued them on the tops. I then glued on an Angel, or if male, an object that I thought they would like. I wrapped the bottom in satin for women and suede for men. I then filled them with homemade chocolate covered cherries!
One year, I took all the money I had set aside for my projects and bought ten dollar gift certificates at Walmart as this is where most of them shop. You would have thought it was 100.00!
