Huge Basket
why and how is it that universities would block off huge parking lots for high school basket ball tournaments?
and charge $5 parking for each space during university time?
and all the students who paid for these parking spaces have to park eslewhere during this time?
is this fair?
how often does this occur and is this for most universities in USA?
how about other countries?
when they are suppose to be a learnig environment for their students
they do this so that they can host larger events. bringing prospective students onto campus gets them possibly interested in attending school there. more students = more people paying tuition = more funding for the school and most likely decreases your tuition in the end
think of it this way too. consider how much you paid for your parking pass. when i lived on campus last year they charged me $250 for the year to park 2 miles from my dorm. (pretty sweet walk to my car every day in the wisconsin winter) so divide that cost by the number of days you park on campus. i’m sure it’s cheaper than the $5/day they charged those visitors. that’s additional parking revenue, which decreases how much they will charge you as a student.
sure it’s an inconvenience but is it worth getting too upset over? probably not. it happened to me last friday actually, high school tournament, $4/spot/day for the weekend for what was normally the free spots!
it happens only a few times a year where i attend school, we’re the 3rd largest university in the state
