Why does my refrigerator collect water on the shelves?
It’s about 3 yrs old. My husband drilled into the ice maker tube once and tried to fix it, but since then the icemaker won’t make ice. Ya hear the motor trying, but no ice. On the otherhand the fridge just started collecting water on some of the shelves, but not all the time. What’s up with that?
Take a dollar bill–close the ref. door on it and see how hard it is to pull it out. Do this all around the door seal. If it feels too loose–then you may have air leaking inside and condensing into “water” at that area This would only apply on the fresh food compartment side. If it were in the freezer section –it would freeze into ice , if seals were leaking there.
Another scenario could be that your icemaker is the source of this water–as it tries to operate–some water is escaping as it tries to fill with water. Possible solution >> Lift the “dog rake” up into the locked position–this is the “wire” on the icemaker. This action should shut off the icemaker. Also shut off the icemaker water supply line at the house.One might,if a little bit handy, simply remove the entire icemaker — not a terribly difficult task —or another way is to take the power wire off the water fill valve ,in the back,at the bottom.
Another scenario could be that some one forgot to turn the water supply back on to the icemaker, and your door seals are leaking air also. Also remember that your freezer section has to be cold enough for your icemaker to operate correctly.
Another possible scenario : the defrost drain hole is stopped up–not allowing the “defrost water” to drain properly–it”s leaking down (top freezer) inside the fresh food compartment area.Possible solution(1) Tilt the ref. slightly to the back—blow through the drain line in the back to clear.
